Pee-Wee Division SUPERBOWL CHAMPS!

The SAWH Pee-Wee’s were victorious 18-0 after a tough fought game against the Central Falls Panthers at Higginson Field in Central Falls. With the Super Bowl victory, the White Hawks now advance to the Regional Finals on November 23rd at Foley Field in Worcester against the winner of the Connecticut/New Hampshire Regional semi-finals. The Regional winner will then advance to the nationals in Orlando, Florida.

It was anyone’s game in the first half with Central Falls gaining momentum after a turnover that had the Panthers 1st and 10 at the White Hawks 12 yard line after a tremendous touchdown- saving tackle by Brandon Tetu. But the SAWH defense, which has given up just 12 points all year, proved solid again and stymied the Central Falls surge, taking over on offense deep in their own territory. After two Ryan McElroy sweeps for 15 and 23 yards, Cotey Martinez ripped-off a 38 yard power run making it 1st and 10 at the Central Falls 9 yard line. Two plays later McElroy ran it in from 9 yards out to go up 6 – 0. “Momentum changed in a matter of minutes after Tetu’s big tackle and the running of Martinez and McElroy on that first touchdown drive. Central Falls was knocking at the door 1 minute, and what seemed like 2 minutes later, they were down 6 – 0. We never lost momentum after that”, Coach McElroy said. Later in the quarter, Quarterback, Evan Toomey, swept right on an option pass and scampered in on a brilliant 14 yard run to increase the half time lead to 12 – 0. The offensive line, led by dominating performances from guards Joey Bozzo & Cody Freeman opened up gaping holes for Tetu who gained 48 yards on just 6 carries and for the running tandem of McElroy and Martinez who combined for 189 yards on the ground for the White Hawks. Evan Toomey made key decisions at Quarterback leading the SAWH offensive team throughout the day.

On Defense, the interior line consisting of Jacob Allard, Keghan Cummings, Jeremiah Dam, Greg Glynn, Trevor Harrison, Cam Holander, Jonathan Marston, Kurtis Parker, Zack Perry, and Tim Travers held off a tough Panther’s running game and provided pressure on the quarterback all day long. Kurtis Parker and Cam Holander led the defensive line with 4 solo tackles each. Matt Finn, Joey Bozzo and Tom Nelson anchored the line at defensive end and eliminated any sweep attempts resulting in losses. Linebacker’s Tyler Ouelette, Cotey Martinez, and Ryan McElroy along with Safety Brandon Tetu didn’t let anything past them including a McElroy 3rd quarter interception return for a touchdown to increase the lead and eventual final score to 18 – 0. At Corner, Cody Freeman and Evan Toomey mirrored the Panther wide receivers including Toomey knocking down a touchdown pass attempt by the Panthers preserving the shutout for the defense.
