The Hate U Give is a story of a young black girl who witnesses the fatal shooting of her childhood best friend at the hands of a white police officer. Thomas???s novel is an engrossing portrait of a teenager, a family, and an inner city neighborhood, addressing issues of racism, poverty, privilege, and police violence. Written for young adults, The Hate U Give proves necessary and vital for adults as well.

Living Literature, led by Artistic Director Barry Press, is a collective of Rhode Island based artists and educators who teach literature through a unique and imaginative process. Participants experience the literature on their feet while observers see the story unfold before them.
