Save The Bay???s two-hour Seal Watch and Lighthouse Tours offered now until April 8 in Newport
NEWPORT, R.I. ??? Dec. 19, 2017 ??? Save The Bay is now offering two-hour Seal Watch and Lighthouse Tours, combining the best of its iconic seal tours with a guided visit through one of Rhode Island???s most historic lighthouses. During the cruise, guests will get panoramic views of seals resting on Citing Rock off of Rose Island and enjoy an off-boat tour of the beautiful Rose Island Lighthouse. This one-of-a-kind Newport experience departs from Bowen???s Ferry Landing and will be held on select weekends each month, including December 27 and 28 during the winter holiday break.
A tour of Rose Island Lighthouse is part of Save The Bay’s two-hour Seal Watch/Lighthouse Tours.
???Guests love the fact that this is a two-hour tour featuring a stop at the beautiful Rose Island with the unique opportunity to climb to the top of the historic lighthouse??? said Jennifer Kelly, public program manager. ???Plus, rarely do people get the chance to see Rhode Island???s state marine mammal in its natural habitat, which is such a treat on its own. Add the guided lighthouse tour, and this becomes a truly special experience,??? Kelly said.
For over 15 years, Save The Bay has offered seal tours from October through April ??? the time seals come into the harbor to feed. These cruises allow guests to view the seals in their natural habitat, unlike visits to a zoo or aquarium, while Save The Bay???s marine experts provide an educational overview of the animal???s behaviors, habitat, and adaptations for our cold waters, as well as an environmental overview of the region. These special two-hour cruises also include the lighthouse tour component, which allows lighthouse and history enthusiasts to learn more about the historic Newport lighthouse.
The two-hour Seal Watch and Lighthouse Tours are $42 for non-members, $32 for members, seniors and children ages 3-12 and $7 for children under the age of three. These tours depart from Bowen???s Ferry Landing, 18 Market Square, Newport, RI. Purchase tour tickets online in advance or through the Bowen’s Wharf kiosk in downtown Newport.
