SAVE THE BAY LNG EVALUATION

National Grid operates a liquefied natural gas (LNG) storage facility in the Port of Providence.??

F SAVE NATIONAL GRID AR-151229841

According to National Grid, natural gas, in liquid form, is currently delivered to this facility by truck from an LNG import facility in Massachusetts.

At times of high demand, National Grid delivers this natural gas, in gaseous form, to local customers by way of existing pipelines.??

Recently, the company has proposed building a liquefaction facility adjacent to its existing LNG storage tank.

The facility???s stated purpose is to allow the company to accept delivery of natural gas, in gaseous form, via existing pipeline during periods of low demand and to liquefy this incoming gas for storage in the existing tank for use in times of high demand.

Save The Bay has evaluated many aspects of the project and has submitted comments and concerns to the Coastal Resources Management Council regarding the facility???s operational life and potential impacts on public access, coastal habitat and vulnerability to storm surges and rising sea levels.??

Based on the information we have today, we have concluded that the liquefaction facility will not have a detrimental impact on water quality.

As with every such proposal, we will continue to review permits and monitor the project as appropriate.
