Treasurer James A. Diossa Announces the Easy Compliance Support Program for Unclaimed Property

Providence, RI – Today, General Treasurer James A. Diossa announced the Easy Compliance Support Program for Unclaimed Property to assist businesses in complying with Rhode Island’s unclaimed property law. Each year, businesses must review their records to identify any unclaimed funds, securities, or other reportable property and submit an annual report of their findings to the State. In 2024, the Treasury’s Unclaimed Property Division returned $15 million through approximately 20,000 claims to Rhode Islanders.
Under the Easy Compliance Support Program, the Unclaimed Property Division has conducted internal reviews of past filings to identify and reach out to nearly 90 businesses that may not be in compliance.
“As General Treasurer, my goal is to help Rhode Islanders reclaim their unclaimed property, while providing businesses with the necessary tools and support for compliance,” said Treasurer Diossa. “The Easy Compliance Support Program is designed to make this process straightforward for businesses. Our Unclaimed Property Division will collaborate with them, emphasizing the importance of compliance while focusing on reuniting Rhode Islanders with their funds.”

Nearly 1 in 7 Rhode Islanders have unclaimed property that has not been claimed. Unclaimed property consists of cash and assets that the Treasurer’s office recovers from businesses, banks, landlords, safe deposit boxes, and utility companies.
