COUNCIL OF STATE GOVERNMENTS

Sen. Kallman named Energy and Environment co-chair by CSG East

Sen. Meghan E. Kallman, RI

STATE HOUSE — Sen. Meghan E. Kallman has been appointed co-chair of the Eastern Regional Conference Energy & Environment Committee by the Council of State Governments, taking over the position from retiring Sen. Marc Pacheco of Massachusetts.

“Up and down the Atlantic Seaboard we are experiencing firsthand the effects of unsustainable energy policies, including rising sea levels, more frequent intense storms and both coastal and inland flooding. Local solutions to these problems only go so far, which is why CSG plays such an important role by allowing these legislative solutions to spread to our neighbors and to federal government.

I want to thank CSG for this opportunity to collaborate with colleagues across North America to develop and share solutions to reduce carbon emissions, increase the resiliency of the electrical grid and reduce costs for consumers,” said Senator Kallman (D-Dist. 15, Pawtucket, Providence).

The Council of State Governments was founded in 1933 to foster collaboration and the exchange of ideas among state lawmakers. The Energy and Environment Committee of CSG East works with officials from its 18 member-jurisdictions to provide research, analysis and share best practices to help states meet their energy and climate goals.

It also conducts leadership training and lobbies at the federal level for programs and policies beneficial to the region.

Senator Kallman has been a member of the Senate Committee on Environment & Agriculture since she was first sworn into office in 2021. During her time in the Senate she has sponsored bills to ban the sale and manufacture of products with dangerous chemical pollutants, and to prepare for the decarbonization of large buildings, while cosponsoring laws to set and enforce Rhode Island’s climate goals and expand solar development while protecting forests and rate payers.

She was also honored in 2023 as an Environmental Champion by Clean Water Action for her work protecting the environment.
