Company Dancer Vilia Putrius as Odette
Sixteen swans waving their “wings” in perfect synchronicity, a dozen nobles and their children making merriment in the streets, fifteen foreign guests of the king and queen, along with castle court men and women, the evil Von Rothbart, a lovelorn prince, and of course, an enchanted princess…it must be SWAN LAKE!
One of the world’s most well-known and beloved ballets, Swan Lake, will close the 38th season of Festival Ballet Providence (FBP). ??This production is a daunting task that requires every dancer to perform multiple roles.?? With just twenty-five full time professionals, every single company member counts.??
Many of the dancers move from one studio to another throughout their long and arduous rehearsal days.?? For the first hour they might be waltzing in the streets of the village, flirting with the kingdom’s most eligible prince.?? In the next, they don their wings and feathers, transforming into elegant swans. There are evil spells, mistaken identities, love and loss…and it is all done through the magic of the hardest working, highly trained, Rhode Island’s own, Festival Ballet Providence!??
