CITY OF PAWTUCKET

The City of Pawtucket had an eventful week filled with vibrant celebrations and meaningful community engagements. We hosted two Colombian Festivals in honor of 214 years of Colombian Independence, which were a resounding success, bringing together residents to celebrate Colombian culture.

Additionally, we joined our friends in Providence to celebrate 203 years of Peruvian Independence, highlighting the contributions and rich heritage of our Peruvian community.

These events reflect our city’s dedication to embracing and celebrating our diverse cultures, which continuously enrich our community.

On the educational front, Pawtucket is making significant improvements to Lyman B. Goff Middle School, including new windows, a roof, and stair enclosures, ensuring our students have the best possible learning environment. We’re also thrilled about the National Parks Grant-supported initiative, in collaboration with The Empowerment Factory, which provided 400 elementary children with enriching experiences at Slater Mill, deepening their understanding of local history and heritage.

To keep everyone informed about such events and more, we’ve launched our new digital events calendar on the city’s website, ensuring residents are always in the loop about upcoming activities.

The city also marked several notable openings and programs. We celebrated the grand opening of Black-Market Realty’s latest project at 460 Smithfield Avenue, which includes a medical office and residential units, showcasing our support for ventures that enhance community well-being. Similarly, the inauguration of The Law Office of Cindy Salazar was a proud moment, as Cindy’s work as an immigration attorney underscores our commitment to diversity and inclusion.

The week also saw the inaugural graduation of the Heavy Metal Summer Experience at Unique Metal Works Inc., emphasizing our support for youth programs that provide valuable career skills.

Finally, we celebrated National Carousel Day and the unveiling of the 2024 Looff Carousel ornament at Slater Memorial Park, with proceeds supporting the preservation of this beloved landmark, ensuring its enchantment for future generations.
