ONGOING EXHIBITIONS
Medieval Chapter House
Ongoing
Pause for a moment of peace and seclusion inside a Benedictine priory from medieval France. This chapter house once served as a meeting room for monks, and the Gothic stone arches, stained glass windows, and grand fireplace inspire a quiet awe to this day. Originally built in the 12th century and in use until the French Revolution, the chapter house was moved stone-by-stone and rebuilt inside the Worcester Art Museum in 1933.
Modern Art
Ongoing
The modern art gallery tells the story of the rapid societal change that took hold across the United States and Europe between World War I and II, when artists grappled with their changing realities through radical, experimental new aesthetics. The wide-ranging umbrella of modern art is on display through paintings, sculptures, and decorative arts by Vassily Kandinsky, Jacob Lawrence, Georgia O’Keeffe, Pablo Picasso, Jackson Pollock, and many others.
European Art
Ongoing
Located along the second-floor balcony overlooking the Renaissance Court, the European art galleries transport you to Leonardo’s Italy, Rembrandt’s Holland, Monet’s France, and more. Discover the lifelike naturalism of Dutch genre scenes, the meticulous detail of marble sculptures, and the vivid colors of the impressionists. Among the paintings and sculptures, full suits of gleaming knight’s armor from the Museum’s expansive Higgins Armory Collection hold watch over the galleries.
