On Saturday, September 21 s, from 2pm-4pm, the Book Club will gather at the Attleboro Arts Museum for a meeting Sunlight or in Shadow Stories Inspired by the Paintings of Edward Hopper edited by Lawrence Block.
In Sunlight or In Shadow is an anthology of seventeen stories by Jeffery Deaver, Joyce Carol Oates, Stephen King, Lee Child, and Robert Olen Butler, among many others all prompted by the art of Edward Hopper.
–This book selection is unusual for the Art Lovers Book Club, as it is not about the artist, his works or circle of creative companions.
Instead, seventeen stories are each paired with a different Hopper painting
Readers are presented with a Hopper visual and a writer’s interpretation of that artwork.
There is an eighteenth painting in the book, “Cape Cod Morning,” that has no companion story.
The unaccompanied image provides book club attendees with an opportunity to try their hand at crafting a story inspired by this Hopper painting in advance of the September 21st meeting
Writers will be asked to share their content during the book club.
