“Rescuing Our Oceans Through Recycled Art”: A Documentary Film Screening

Our fragile oceans are plagued with plastics and other manmade trash. This documentary explores how local artists, scientists, and members of the community have come together to create art from the detritus and bring awareness to what we, as individuals, can do to help solve the problem. Following the screening of “Rescuing Our Oceans Through Recycled Art” will be a panel discussion with Film Director Johnny Bergmann, Center of Coastal Studies’ Laura Ludwig, and Artist Sarah Thornington.

Opening Reception for “It’s All About the Idea…Mark Making and Process”

This exhibition and opening is held at the HyArts Programming Annex, 250 South St., Hyannis.
“It’s All About the Idea… Mark Making and Process” is a collection of experimental paintings, drawings, and mixed media created by artist Ann Guiliani. This exhibition, displayed from May 7-31, expresses the creative process as a free, fluid, and exciting journey that takes Ann into varied worlds that often merge together, each starting with an idea about something seen or experienced that must be said.

This class will be held at our HyArts Programming Annex, located at 250 South St., Hyannis.
Join the legendary Ann Guiliani for this intensive three-day exploration focused on finding your own mark and form of expression. “Art making can start in many ways. We are inspired by what we see, or the materials we touch and explore. We start with play and curiosity as well as the idea. We find our mark just by doing! We will explore design concepts working directly with both conventional and unconventional. Eventually, an idea will emerge for an individual painting, designing, or drawing. Or you may want to continue experimenting and creating. The choice is yours. Since the class is geared toward the individual, it is for all levels. Your own interests and ideas will take you where you need to go. So just bring an open mind and the courage to try something new!”
Ann Guiliani
Ann has two Masters degrees: One in Painting and Art Education from New York University and one in Printmaking and Visual Design from the University of Massachusetts. Ann moved from West New York, New Jersey, to Cape Cod with her husband and taught at Cape Cod Community College from 1984 to 2000. Versed in so many media, she taught all the art offerings. She has had five solo shows since returning to Cape Cod in 2015. “My images start from daily life experiences: ‘something seen or experienced that must be said’. How I visually interact with a person or a place is never the same. Heraclitus, the Greek philosopher from the 5th century BC, believed that you could never step in the same river twice because it is not the same river, and you are not the same person. I share that belief. For me, life is fleeting and in a state of constant change. Through my art, I try to catch that moment and freeze it and perhaps revisit the image to see it in a different way.”
