RIDE – RI DEPARTMENT OF EDUCAION

Commissioner’s Memo to Friends of Education

New School Buildings and Innovative Mobile Classrooms

Students in Providence have been welcomed into a new school building! Recently, we joined Governor McKee, Mayor Smiley, Superintendent Montañez and the Providence Public School District (PPSD) community to cut the ribbon on the brand-new Frank D. Spaziano Elementary School, which serves as an innovative and welcoming space to foster productive learning environments. Spaziano Elementary is one of three new or like-new schools opened this year in the city alone.

Students in Pawtucket are also getting real-world, hands-on experience in their career and technical education (CTE) classes. Recently, Deputy Commissioner Lisa Odom-Villella joined students and staff at Charles E. Shea Senior High School and the Pawtucket community to cut the ribbon on their new #MenuforSuccess food truck titled “Get RIght.” Students will be able to gain valuable skills in culinary arts, entrepreneurship, graphic design and more while serving up delicious meals and tasty beverages. Mark your calendars for May 4, 2024, when Pawtucket and 12 other local education agencies (LEAs) will be competing for the Governor’s Cup and Commissioner’s Championship!

None of this could have happened if we did not have our students in school. Remember, it is imperative that children are in the classroom. They cannot learn if they are not present. Don’t forget that it’s #Cool2BeInSchoolRI and that #AttendanceMattersRI!
