RHODE ISLAND DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION

Commissioner’s Weekly Field Memo

Welcome Back, Rhode Island!

The 2023-2024 school year has officially kicked off for many Rhode Island students and we can feel the excitement for #Back2SchoolRI! We recently joined Governor Dan McKee for a visit to Burrillville to greet students for the first day back at Callahan Elementary School. From students to educators to transportation staff, everyone was thrilled to begin the new academic year. Watch the video below to see the enthusiasm from the community! We must stay on track and ensure all our students are in school not just on the first day, but every day.

Remember, it’s #Cool2BeInSchoolRI. With the start of the New academic year, we’re also inviting educators to apply for the STEAM Educatnor Award ahead of STEAM Month in November. Presented by the Rhode Island STEAM Center at Rhode Island College, this award celebrates the excellent work educators in science, technology, engineering, art+design, and mathematics do.
