Girl Scouts of Southeastern New England Donates Cookies and Proceeds to Local Organizations
KENT HOSPITAL
WARWICK, RI—Girl Scouts of Southeastern New England (GSSNE) donated over 24,000 Girl Scout Cookie packages to local organizations throughout the community through a local community service project called Cookie Share. These organizations included the Rhode Island Food Bank, Rhode Island National Guard, Children’s Friend, Kent Hospital, Women & Infants Hospital, Meals on Wheels, The Rhode Island Blood Center, Northern RI Food Bank, House of Hope, St. John the Baptist, and the Jonnycake Center.
Cookie Share is a Girl Scout Cookie Program related service project that GSSNE implements each year where customers support Girl Scouts by purchasing a package of cookies that is then donated to a local organization such as food banks, shelters, military, and hospitals. Giving back to the community is a big part of what Girl Scouts learn through participating in the Cookie Program. Troops and service units can also collect cookie share at in-person booth sales which they donate to their own local organizations.
HOUSE OF HOPE
Each year Girl Scouts of Southeastern New England selects a local organization to be the recipient of our annual Cookie Program Community Service Project. The 2023 recipient was House of Hope. House of Hope affirms that safe, stable housing is a basic human right. They address the trauma of homelessness by empowering constituents, delivering high impact innovative services, diversifying housing options, and advocating for policies to counter structural inequalities. Working with other local nonprofits is a great opportunity for Girl Scouts to learn about the importance of giving back to their communities. GSSNE is excited to announce that $2,343 has been donated to this remarkable nonprofit organization by local Girl Scout troops!
The Girl Scout Cookie Program—the largest girl-led entrepreneurial program in the world—funds life-changing programs, experiences, and learning for local youth and Girl Scout troops all year long. 100% of the proceeds from the Girl Scout Cookie Program stay local, powering essential leadership development programming and meaningful community impact.
MEALS ON WHEELS
“The Girl Scout Cookie Program is an important component of the Girl Scout Leadership Experience. Not only does the sale of these delicious treats help fund troop programs, camp, financial aid, and travel, but it provides youth with important skills that last a lifetime. These include giving back to the community, decision making, people skills, money management and so much more. And it is important to know proceeds from purchases made locally remain in the community,” said Ginger Lallo, Chief Operating Officer at GSSNE.
We Are Girl Scouts
Girl Scouts bring their dreams to life and work together to build a better world. Through programs across Southeastern New England, Girl Scouts of all backgrounds and abilities can be unapologetically themselves as they discover their strengths and rise to meet new challenges—whether they want to climb to the top of a tree or the top of their class, lace up their boots for a hike or advocate for climate justice, or make their first best friends. Backed by trusted adult volunteers, mentors, and millions of alums, Girl Scouts lead the way as they find their voices and make changes that affect the issues most important to them.
