CHILDREN’S SUMMER READING PROGRAM

PAWTUCKET PUBLIC LIBRARY LAUNCHES CHILDREN’S SUMMER READING PROGRAM

The Pawtucket Public Library is excited to announce this year’s summer reading program “Dive Into Reading.” Children of all ages can be Summer Readers. Children ages 6-12 can read on their own with family and friends. Collect prizes after reading 3 hours, 6 hours, and 9 hours. Once 9 hours are complete, your child will earn two raffle tickets for this year’s prize baskets.

 

For our youngest pre-readers ages 0-5 we have an activity log. After every three (3) activities are completed, your child will earn a prize. Complete 9 activities and earn two raffle tickets for this year’s prize baskets. Register for the program in the children’s library, on the bookmobile or online at www.pawtucketlibrary.org. All children are welcome to attend the following programs scheduled in July and August:

 

 Shark Week Crafts

Monday July 10, 3:00 PM

It’s Shark Week! Celebrate these fearsome creatures of the sea with two special crafts! One craft you can eat and and the other is for display. Free. All materials provided. No registration required.

 

Creative Bookmark Making

Tuesday July 11, 10:30 AM

Join our library volunteer Dylan who will teach kids how to create cool ocean animal characters and make interesting bookmarks! All materials provided. Recommended for kids ages 5 and up,but younger siblings welcome with adult caregiver. No registration required.

 

Under the Sea Party

Wednesday July 12, 2:00 PM

It’s party time! This time we’re going under the sea! Ariel will be here with a special story, mermaid lessons, and dancing. Then you’ll make your own craft and enjoy an ocean themed snack. Come in your own mermaid or pirate costume! No registration required.

 

Theater Story Time with Gamm Theater

Friday July 14, July 21, and July 28, 10:30 AM

The Gamm Theater in collaboration with the Pawtucket Library is hosting a Theater Story Time. Kids preschool age to early elementary will get to enjoy stories told by a Gamm Teaching Artist and then engage in theater games and activities. Come join in the fun this summer! 

 

Origami Underwater Scene

Thursday July 20, 2:30 PM

Learn how to make origrami sea animals to create an underwater scene. All materials will be provided. Recommended for kids ages 5 and up, but younger sibilings welcome with adult caregiver. No registration required.

 

Graphic Novel Book Club

Saturday July 22, 11:00 AM

The Graphic Novel Book Club for kids will be sharing ideas and doing activities focused on the book, Fantastic Tales of Nothing by Alejandra Green and Fanny Rodriguez.  The first 10 kids to register will receive a free copy of the book.  Other copies will be available for check-out.  Join us to share your thoughts about the book, play trivia games and complete a craft.  Welcome to all children who have read the book.  This title is best for ages 9-11.

 

Animal Experience with Dave Marchetti

Wednesday July 26, 2:00 PM

Dave Marchetti’s Animal Experience program is a fun and incredibly hands-on way to meet turtles, snakes, lizards, some small mammals and Wally the  alligator up close and personal. Dave’s program combines learning some interesting facts about his animals with the thrill of actually handling them.  No registration required.

 

Mystic Aquarium Touch Tank

Friday July 28, 10:30 AM

Mystic Aquarium is visiting the library! They will be here with a touch tank for kids to touch a variety of sea animals. Kids will also get to take home a free book. No registration required. Just come on up to the Children’s Library while they’re here to experience the fun.This program is made possible in part by the RI Office of Library and Information Services with funding from the Institute of Museum and Library Services.

 

Create and Animate

Tuesday August 1, 10:30 AM

Library volunteer Dylan and Gif-o-Graf creator Sam will be here to help kids draw an original character and then animate it on the Gif-o-Graf machine! All materials are provided. No registration required. Meet in the Teen Center.

 

Summer Reading Finale with Rhythm Room

Friday August 11, 11:00 AM

Join us to celebrate the end of the Summer Reading Program! The Rhythm Room will be here with Bucket Boot Camp. This music and movement program creates a safe and comfortable environment to learn rhythms and grooves. Featured throughout New England, this program promotes listening skills, critical thinking, and teamwork! We will also announce the winners for each of this year’s Summer Reading Prize Baskets!
