Bristol & The Slave Trade Walking Tours begin Thurs, June 8th at Linden Place Mansion
Linden Place Museum will host walking tours of Linden Place and downtown Bristol, focused specifically on Bristol’s DeWolf Family and their involvement in the transatlantic slave trade. The DeWolf family, Bristol’s premier family in the 18th and early 19th centuries, was once one of the largest traders of slaves in New England.
The guided tours take place on select Thursday afternoons and begin at Linden Place, the Federal-style mansion built by architect Russell Warren for George DeWolf.
The tour then continues through the center of historic Bristol and down to the waterfront pointing out significant sites tied to Bristol’s lengthy and profitable involvement in the slave trade.

The tour is $20, $15 for Linden Place members, and includes a complimentary self-guided tour of Linden Place Mansion.
Reservations are required and the tour is limited to 15 people.

Friends of Linden Place is a non-profit organization responsible for the restoration and preservation of the historic house museum at 500 Hope Street in Bristol, Rhode Island, and for the promotion of cultural, artistic, and educational programs in the community. The mansion and grounds are open to the public from May to October, during the holiday season, and also by appointment.
