Having the Last Say: A Unique Writing Workshop at the Weaver Library

East Providence, RI – As we age, we take on the challenge of making sense of life in its third act.??Having the Last Say,??a workshop offered by author and writing coach Alan Gelb on Monday, March 27, 2017 at 7pm, takes life review out of the realm of memoir writing and makes telling one???s story accessible to those who have never considered themselves ???writers.??? Participants will learn how to create short????narratives that capture and reflect their values, creating keepsakes to be shared with family and friends???or even come away with a valedictory that can be read at their own memorial service.

A seasoned writer of fiction and nonfiction, Alan Gelb published Conquering the College Admissions Essay in 10 Steps in 2008. Now in its second edition, this volume has taught thousands of students how to create a one-of-a-kind essay. Having the Last Say: Capturing Your Legacy in One Small Story??builds on the work Gelb has done with high school students to help older people confer and gain perspective on the life that they have lived.

For almost 30 years, Alan and his wife have lived in the middle of 15 acres in Chatham, New York. Alan is an avid gardener, feeder of birds, and spectator of wild turkeys and the occasional bear that visits his property. Weaver Library is delighted to offer the community this free program.
