In Case You Missed It

GOVERNOR GINA RAIMONDO
Dear Friends,??
As you may have heard, my proposal to give every Rhode Islander two years of free college is generating a lot of buzz!
Every day, I speak with Rhode Islanders who tell me that college tuition is just too expensive. According to US News & World Report’s “Best States” ranking, Rhode Island is #8 for college readiness…but #49 in two-year college graduation and #23 in four-year college graduation rates. Our K-12 schools are preparing our students for college, but far too many Rhode Islanders are forced to drop out once they get there due to mounting debt. This is unacceptable. We need to ensure that??all??Rhode Islanders have access to the jobs of the future???most of which will require two- or four-year degrees.??
The good news is that my proposal is realistic, sustainable, and less than half of one percent of the state budget. It’s also picking up more and more support???just this week, the Providence School Board unanimously voted to endorse it!
Free college is a good thing, and Rhode Islanders agree. To learn more, visit FreeCollegeRI.com??and check out some of the headlines we’ve made here in the Ocean State.??
Sincerely,??
Gina??
