Montserrat Prez to Take Museum Job

Montserrat College President Kurt T. Steinberg announced he will step down as head of the arts college in Beverly, Mass. in January 2023 to become chief operating officer of the Peabody Essex Museum in neighboring Salem, Mass. Before joining Montserrat, Steinberg was interim president and executive vice president at the Massachusetts College of Art and Design for 12 years.

 

 

Elms College named Andrew Coston, recent assistant dean of students and executive director of the Center for Career Development at Minnesota’s Gustavus Adolphus College, to be the new vice president of student affairs at the Chicopee, Mass, college.

 

 

Western Governors University (WGU) named Cynthia Merrill, the former director of educator network at the Digital Citizenship Institute in Hartford, Conn., as director of the Northeast region for the nonprofit online university.

Merrill will oversee WGU’s strategic operations in Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania (central and eastern), Rhode Island, Vermont and Virginia. Merrill is on the faculty at the University of New Hampshire and is the founder of The Literacy Consortium, based in Durham, N.H., which delivers K-12 training on literacy and technology integration in schools nationwide.

 

 

Haystack Mountain School of Crafts appointed Perry Price, currently executive director of the Houston Center for Contemporary Craft in Texas, to be the new executive director of the cutting-edge craft education institution in Maine. A scholar of contemporary studio craft, material culture, decorative arts and design, Price served as director of education for the American Craft Council. He succeeds Paul Sacaridiz, who left the leadership of Haystack to direct Cranbrook Academy of Art in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan.
