Linden Place Mansion’s Annual Meeting to Feature Preservation Society of Newport Research Fellow, MaryKate Smolenski

All are welcome to attend Linden Place Mansion’s annual meeting Wednesday, November 9 at 7pm inside the mansion at 500 Hope Street, Bristol. The meeting includes a recap of 2022 at the 200-year old museum, election of board members, volunteer awards and a special speaking program by historian, MaryKate Smolenski.

 

In her presentation, “Returning to Hunter House,” MaryKate discusses the research and planning behind the new visitor experience at the Preservation Society’s landmark 18th-century house.

She explores the challenges of researching the colonial era, especially the lives of enslaved people in Newport, recounting discoveries made along the way.

 

Smolenski is a PhD student in the American and New England Studies Program at Boston University where she studies early American history with a particular interest in female loyalists and material culture. From 2020 to 2022, she was a research fellow at the Preservation Society of Newport County (PSNC), working on the reinterpretation of Hunter House (c. 1748).
