Transportation for Massachusetts Statement
on New MassINC Polling Group Voter Survey
“Investing in Our Transportation System is Critical to Our State’s Future”
BOSTON , January 13, 2022 —
Statement from Josh Ostroff, Interim Director of Transportation for Massachusetts on new MassINC Polling Group voter survey on transportation:
“Voters continue to be clear that investing in our transportation system is critical to our state’s future. And in a time of worsening inequality, it is notable that as voters support taxing the wealthiest to help modernize transportation, they also support making public transit more affordable for low-income riders – an idea passed by the legislature but vetoed by Governor Baker a year ago.
We urge the legislature, the Baker Administration, and candidates for Massachusetts Governor to prioritize equitable transportation investments and climate resilience, and to take action on low-income fares for transit riders. Providing safe and reliable transportation choices to people across the Commonwealth requires long-term, dedicated revenue.
Incoming federal funds provide new opportunities for action, and advocates are prepared to work with MassDOT and other agencies to ensure they are spent wisely.
Yet federal funds alone are not sufficient to bring forth the modern roads, bridges, rails, transit, bikeways and walkways our residents deserve and are demanding.”
