SEPTEMBER 11TH
Colony House Bell to Ring in Honor of September 11th Newport, RI (September 2021)
The Newport Historical Society is honored to announce that on September 11th, 2021 the bells of the Colony House will be rung to mark the twentieth anniversary of the September 11th attacks, and the lives lost that day.
Throughout Newport’s history, the bell has been rung to celebrate a holiday or mark a momentous occasion, and in the early days of the pandemic, NHS staff rang the bell weekly in a sign of solidarity and community.
On September 11th , we ring the bell to remember all those who lost their lives that fateful day.
The NHS will ring the Colony House bell at 8:46, 9:03, 9:37, 9:59, 10:03, and 10:28 to mark the times of the four plane crashes, and the collapse of the Twin Towers.
