Just Claying Around
AGES 6-13
Come explore the basics of clay art-making with NBAM! Students will acquire skills in creating pinch pots, coiling, slab building, and wheel-thrown creations using a pottery wheel. Students will complete their pieces with glazing and our clay instructor will fire them in a kiln. All materials are included in the class. Classes are adapted for students ages 6-13. So “clay” for a while and create some fun art!
Luck of the Draw
AGES 6-13
Come explore the basics of drawing and painting with NBAM! Students will acquire skills in observational drawing and painting, comics and cartoons, landscapes and nature, portraits, and more! All materials are included in the class. Classes are adapted for students ages 6-13. Try your best and open your mind to all artistic possibilities. “Paint” no mountain high enough!

We Can Be Heroes: Comics, Cartoons, and Manga – Virtual
AGES 11-14
Explore how artwork and storytelling come together in the form of Comics, Cartoons, and Manga. Develop a comic strip, learn about Japanese comics and Manga style, learn how to draw a variety of facial expressions, animate objects, and create thumbnail sketches that go from concept to storyboard. This class meets virtually with real-time instruction from our art educator. All materials are included in the class. So get in “toon” with your creative side and make some cool art!
Lights, Camera, Action!: Costume Design – Hybrid
AGES 11-14
Have you ever wondered how costumes for movies and tv are made? In this class, learn about the process of costume designing. We will cover color theory, concept development, mood board assemblage, how to gesture-draw people and clothing, basic sewing, and conventional/unconventional materials to create garments. The class will meet virtually for the week. For those that are able to attend, and an in-person field trip to the New Bedford Art Museum/Artworks! is included on Monday, July 26 from 9:00 AM-10:00 AM. The field trip will also be live-streamed. Students will view our current costume design exhibit, Uncommon Threads: The Work of Ruth E. Carter. All materials are included in the class. In the words of Ruth, “you’re smart, you’re beautiful, you’re intelligent, you’re creative.” So don’t be “clothes” minded; think outside the box and let’s get started!

Teen Landscape Painting Class
Enjoy fun in the sun with NBAM’s outdoor painting class! In this class, you will learn all the basics of Plein Air (“open-air”) painting. Students will learn both traditional and modern techniques while using high-quality professional paints, tools, and easels. Over this weeklong class, you will create 3-5 original landscape paintings. All supplies are included. Please be mindful of bringing comfortable items as we will be outdoors
