Salomon-Fernández Headed to SNHU

Yves Salomon-Fernández announced she will step down as president of Greenfield Community College on Aug. 15 and become senior vice president at Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU). She previously served as president of Cumberland County College in New Jersey and interim president of MassBay Community College. Salomon-Fernández has authored several pieces for NEJHE. In March 2018, Diverse: Issues in Higher Education named her one of the Top 25 Women in Higher Education.
Amid the steady stream of diversity and inclusion appointments at New England organizations, two ecologically focused colleges—Vermont’s Sterling College and Maine’s College of the Atlantic—joined together to appoint Rachael Blansett as a diversity & inclusion fellow. Recently a resident director at the University of California-Berkeley’s Asian Pacific American Theme House, Blansett will serve Sterling and College of the Atlantic in the new position funded by the Endeavor Foundation.
Andrew Seligsohn announced he will depart as president of Campus Compact after seven years in charge to lead Public Agenda, the nonpartisan research and public engagement organization dedicated to strengthening democracy. (NEJHE readers may recall Public Agenda’s former president, Will Friedman, being featured in Changing Public Perceptions of Higher Ed.) Maggie Grove, Campus Compact’s vice president for strategy and operations, will be interim president while the board of directors looks to permanently fill the position.
Champlain College named Monique M. Taylor as its new provost and chief academic officer. She was campus dean and executive director for the New York Institute of Technology’s Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates programs.
The University of Rhode Island named Alyssa Boss, a former partner in the Providence law firm of Cameron & Mittleman LLP and former executive vice president and general counsel for the Care New England Health System, as university general counsel. She succeeds Louis J. Saccoccio, who retired in December 2020 after 30 years at the university.
Bay Path University named Shannon McCarty as vice president for academic affairs. McCarty has been serving as vice president, teaching and learning, and associate vice president for the Center of Innovation at National University in La Jolla, Calif.
Boston College named Shawna Cooper-Gibson, currently vice president for student services at Seton Hall University, as vice president for student affairs, succeeding Joy Moore, who stepped down in October to assist her husband in his battle with cancer.
Dartmouth College Provost Joseph J. Helble was selected as the 15th president of Pennsylvania’s Lehigh University, his alma mater.
The U.S. Department of Education named former of New London, Conn. state Rep. Chris Soto as a senior advisor to the Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona, who worked with Soto in his days as Connecticut education commissioner. Soto, who also served as director of legislative affairs for Gov. Ned Lamont and director of innovation and partnerships with the state Department of Education, is a former member of NEBHE’s Legislative Advisory Committee.
