PAWTUCKET COMMUNITY LIASON BOARD

Mayor Grebien Announces Community Board in Pawtucket

DONALD R. GREBIEN

Pawtucket – Mayor Donald R. Grebien has announced the creation of the Mayor’s Community Board (MCB) through Executive Order in order to encourage a more cohesive environment for all citizens and visitors to the City of Pawtucket by promoting the values of diversity and inclusivity.

“Over the past few months, my administration has heard from members of our diverse community that, amid ongoing national issues, we need to continue to strengthen our relationships and building up our trust with the community,” said Mayor Grebien.

“My administration will look to the MCB for recommendations on a wide range of issues from simple issues like better communications from city departments to our diverse communities, exploring the use of various media platforms to distribute information to more serious issues like social justice reforms and increasing diversity in our Police and Fire Departments,” Grebien continued.

The creation of a Community Board is one of many steps that have been taken over the past several months amid the national dialogue on social justice. Another is the creation of a Community Liaison position at City Hall. This liaison will work with various community groups and agencies to get their feedback and concerns regarding day to day situations happening in Pawtucket. Furthermore, changes have been made to the Police hiring process that include extra points for Pawtucket residents and individuals who speak multiple languages.

The Mayor’s Community Board will serve as a liaison between members of the community from varying racial and ethnic backgrounds and the City. The Community Board with the Community Liaison, will recommend policies that advance the quality of life and overall health and well-being of all members of the city of Pawtucket, with a focus on those from varying racial, residential and ethnic backgrounds.

The committee will consist of members from varying racial, residential and ethnic backgrounds. Those interested in joining the board are asked to send their resumes to Wil Arboleda via email at
