WARWICK, RI: SCOTT ZAMBARANO

ZAMBARANO CALLS FOR NEW LEGISLATION ON PROTESTERS BLOCKING TRAFFIC

SCOTT ZAMBARANO

Scott Zambarano, the endorsed Republican candidate for Senate District 31 Warwick, called for legislation to strengthen RI lawwith respect of protesters blocking traffic.

It was reported earlier this week that a group of protesters blocked traffic on I-95 northbound in Providence with a U-Haul truck and a couple of cars.

“I have no issue with peaceful protesting; however, it is illegal for protesters to block highways or streets. This is a major disruption which frightens many drivers or occupants and adversely affects our first responders attempting to possibly save a life,” said Zambarano.

“These protesters were also lighting fireworks off on the highway which is extremely dangerous and may have been mistaken as gun shots, adding to the mayhem.”

Several individuals were charged with disorderly conduct and conspiracy and were held overnight at state police headquarters.

“We have seen this before in our state and the penalty for doing so is not serving as a deterrent,” said Zambarano.  “Someone could have been killed as a result of this.  When I am elected to the Senate, I will work on legislation with stiffer penalties for those who block traffic on our roads and highways.

This needs to be more than just a slap on the wrist. There are ways to protest to gain support for a cause and this clearly isn’t one of them.”

Zambarano is a small business owner who spent several years as a Providence police officer. Information on his candidacy can be found at
