PAWTUCKET, RI: GREAT PUMPKIN PARTY AT SLATER PARK

The Great Pumpkin Party at Daggett Farm

The Pawtucket Parks & Recreation Division is hosting The Great Pumpkin Party at Daggett Farm in Slater Memorial Park on Saturday, October 24th from 12 noon to 3 pm.  This is a FREE event and preregistration is strongly suggested to receive preferential access due to the limited capacity at any given time. There are two pumpkin decorating sessions that require an additional and separate registration due to capacity and supply limits.  A rain date has been scheduled for Sunday, October 25th.

The Great Pumpkin Party is an afternoon of treats, games and activities along with great Halloween music being provided by DJ Bo-Dee throughout the event.  Children are encouraged to come in costume and participate in the Great Pumpkin Party Costume Parade which will kick off promptly at 12:30 pm.

Activities will include a pumpkin decorating area facilitated and co-sponsored by the Empowerment Factory, where they will have team members available to assist in creating custom decorated pumpkins using felt and other materials. This activity is for ages 4-14 year olds and requires pre-registration as space is limited to 30 children per session (1pm & 2pm). Organizers from the annual Slater Park Pumpkins in the Park event will be participating on this day and will be preparing a Halloween scene photo area for pictures with the children.

Games for the children will include Pumpkin Chuckin’, Pumpkin Bowling and Ring the Witch along with a Dangling Donut and Mummy Wrap contests.  Prizes will be provided at these games while supplies last.

Currently, the Parks and Recreation Division is looking for participants and local support for this event.  Individuals, organizations and/or companies can participate in the “Trunk or Treat” or the “Boo in the Zoo” portion of this event.  “Trunk or Treat” participants are asked to decorate their cars and follow the CDC protocol for candy distribution.  “Boo at the Zoo” participants will be distributing candy from inside the farm without a vehicle. An application packet outlining the event protocols and BCI form is required in advance and available at the Slater Park Office, Monday through Friday, 8:30 am – 4:30 pm or by email.  Please contact Sheryl Rennick at srennick@pawtucketri.com or 728-0500, ext. 253.  The deadline to participate is Monday, October 12.

For those looking to support this event, the Parks and Recreation Division is also accepting donations of gift cards to local supermarkets / stores to purchase candy and pumpkins for this event. These can be dropped off at the Slater Park Office Monday through Friday from 8:30 am – 4:30 pm.

The Parks and Recreation Division will be following the COVID guidelines established by the Center of Disease Control and the Rhode Island Department of Health.  Face coverings are required by all volunteers and visitors at the event.  All visitors and volunteers will be temperature screened at the gate upon entry. The candy will be distributed through one-way trick-or-treating guidelines, where candy will be pre-packaged, placed in individual goodie bags and accessible from a table for families to grab and go.  All volunteers will be following proper COVID protocols at the game stations for cleaning and sanitizing items.
