LTE: RE IMAGINING PROVIDENCE

Dear neighbor –

Providence is known as the Creative Capital in part because of our world-class restaurants, our local creative economy, and thriving small businesses that serve as the beating heart of our city. Businesses have had to find creative ways to adapt to the situation and together we are reimagining Providence through #RethinkPVD, a campaign to redefine how people experience our city.

Every dollar spent at a small business is a dollar reinvested in our community .Last week, I announced that we will extend free two-our parking from 10:00AM – 9:00PM in business corridors throughout our city through September 12. During the extended campaign, the Providence Warwick Convention & Visitors Bureau is hosting Providence Restaurant Weeks: Stay Local. Eat Well. Businesses wishing to re-purpose parking spaces adjacent to their business to facilitate streamlined pick-up, take-out, and delivery services, or to increase outdoor dining space, can still apply to do so. Check out some local establishments and locations that have expanded their footprint to give you more space to dine including but not limited to:

  • Atwells Avenue’s Al FrescoDinging on Federal Hill

  • The Salonoutdoor experience on Fulton Alley

  • The Eddywhich offers outdoor dining on Middle Street

  • Askewwhich has expanded to Chestnut Street/Elbow Street

(Please check with establishments for hours of operation)

We know that our businesses have gone to great lengths to reopen safely and we want to continue to support them during that process. Whether you are dining outdoors or exploring our shops in new ways, , or enjoying a night in with delivery and takeout options, explore our amazing local establishments if you’re able to. You can also treat yourself to a staycation and book a night at a hotel, or visit the online marketplaces of your favorite galleries, shops and artists.

Above all else, please continue to support each other during this difficult time and we’ll emerge as a stronger, more resilient city.

Sincerely,

Jorge O. Elorza
