Chapter Launches Free CE Webinar Series

AIA Rhode Island is offering 2 continuing education webinars this week, as part of our regular CE Webinar series:

5/12 – Exceptional Metals – Sustainability and Energy Efficiency using Insulated Metal Panels (IMP)

5/13 – Sierra Pacific Industries – Sustainable Forestry / SFI Program

As the profession remains open for business, albeit remotely, this series is intended to assist Rhode Island architectural practitioners (members and nonmembers) meet their yearly HSW requirement(s).

The chapter has created a running list of presentations, and anticipates scheduling 2 weekly at the 12-1 PM hour each Tuesday, Wednesday, and/or Thursday. Presentations will be posted on the Chapter Calendar once scheduled; RSVP information for each event are linked below, and is also on the Chapter Calendar. These are lunchless obviously, so BYO.

If your firm has any canceled lunch and learns and would like to have those sessions added to the queue, or if there is a topic you would like included, please reach out to us , and we’ll see about including it on the schedule.

Sustainability and Energy Efficiency using Insulated Metal Panels (IMP)

Exceptional Metals presents session #1 this week with, Sustainability and Energy Efficiency using Insulated Metal Panels (IMP)

Time: 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM

Credit: 1.0 HSW

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

Participants will learn the energy benefits and values associated with an IMP (Insulated Metal Panel). They will learn how to reduce the carbon footprint, contribute to the ongoing LEED initiative and understand the various applications associated with IMP panels. These include wall, roof and ceilings. Their use applies to new construction and retrofit construction.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

How IMP’s lower building energy cost, inhibit moisture migration, and improve the environment for the occupants of the facility.

A comparison of Insulating Values to conventional systems along with demonstration of how IMPS affect and reduce the carbon footprint of a building.

How to apply credits towards Green Building rating for sustainability and performance using IMP’s.

Discuss how the versatility of IMP’s works for walls, roofs, ceilings for new and retrofit applications. And be able to differentiate various types of IMP’s to meet the Green Initiative.

Sustainable Forestry / SFI Program

Sierra Pacific Industries presents session #2 this week with, Sustainable Forestry / SFI Program

Time: 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM

Credit 1.0 HSW

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This is a discussion on the Sustainable Forestry Initiative program (SFI). The presentation details history, membership and qualification into the SFI standard and what it means to have that certification. Included is discussion about how our forests help to sequester carbon from our atmosphere while providing a renewable source of fiber that can be used in a multitude of ways.

Learning Objectives:

Have a sense for who is “SFI”, as well as the history of the Sustainable Forest Initiative.

Understand the purpose of SFI principles, objectives, performance measures and indicators.

Know how to answer the question of, “what is forest certification?”
