It is behind schedule, but the shadbush (serviceberry – June berry) is blooming – shadbush blooms slightly before native dogwood blooms – serviceberries are edible.
Our Woodland Period ancients saw the blooming of native dogwood as the time to begin planting their maze crops – has to do with soil temperatures.
We were social-distance visiting with my sister yesterday at the Seekonk Library grounds – a Caratunk bird crew guy happened by to check bluebird nesting boxes situated in the former gravel pit closer to Central Pond – nesting-distancing at work.
Good job Caratunk.
We have regularly been observing active bluebirds behind the barn at Caratunk.
