CULTURAL CENTER OF CAPE COD

Greetings and best wishes to you all.

Ordinarily, our members would soon be receiving an April newsletter in the mail.

Ordinarily, our staff would be at the Center, managing the mailing,  instead of working in isolation, from home.

Ordinarily, the newsletter would be bursting with great April events, exhibits, and classes.

But there’s nothing ordinary about the world right now.

So we hope you’ll accept a digital stand-in with updates about our situation, a few hopes for the future, and some suggestions for how to stay engaged while we’re all keeping our distance.

We’ve been posting a lot on our Facebook page: links to interesting sites and activities, advice for artists and others about how to weather this storm, and glimpses of what we had planned to offer “in the flesh,” like Mutual Muses, one of our favorite annual exhibits. Here’s just one example of what we had in store:

And though we’re heartbroken that we had to close just after hanging an exhibit by the extraordinarily talented students from Dennis-Yarmouth Regional High School, we’ll share with you what we can, starting now:

In the days ahead, we’ll also post on-line galleries of work that artists are creating during  and in response to this pandemic, along with on-line classes and demonstrations.

And we’ll share suggestions that you yourselves send to us.

Like this one, from ArtNews.

“9 Dazzling Virtual Art Experiences You Can Have From the Comfort of Your Home, Including a Memorable Trip to the Sistine Chapel”

And this wonderful video.

The looks on the faces of these children will remind you that the arts are more important than ever in this time of crisis.

P3And this March Artist of the Month film by Geoff Bassett Photography & Video, featuring a talk and work by our friend Eileen Casey.

The film was to have been shown at the Orpheum Theater in Chatham, in conjunction with her exhibit, “Branching Out,” sponsored by the Orpheum and the Cape Cod Arts Center.

So please keep in touch with ideas and updates, watch for our efforts to engage and connect, and know that we’ll be ready with an extraordinary range of exciting events, exhibits, and educational opportunities when we open again.
