Welcome New Board Member Joe Monteiro from Webster Bank
JOE MONTEIRO
Joe Monteiro has over 30 years of experience in the banking industry, with a specialization in community economic development. He presently serves as Vice President, Relationship Manager for Webster Bank RI/SEMA Business Banking Team.
Prior to joining Webster Bank in 2016, Monteiro served as AVP, Relationship Manager for over six years at a local community banking institution, Navigant Credit Union. His lending career spans over 20 years, working in unique and impactful positions with some of the well-known national and regional commercial banking institutions. While at Bank of America, he served as Senior Vice President for its Program Related Investments unit (PRI), the bank’s principal business unit investing in Community Development Financial Institutions across the country that provides financing to revitalize underserved communities. During his tenure at FleetBoston Financial Corp, he served in several different capacities, first serving as Director of Strategic Investments for Fleet Development Ventures, LLC (FDV), the bank’s business unit dedicated to expanding access to capital with focused, sustainable investments in urban markets. After the BankBoston and Fleet merger, Monteiro served as a senior vice president within FleetBoston Financial Group’s small business lending unit. His primary role was to act as the business line liaison for lending activities relating to the Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) across the bank’s Northeast footprint. His tenure at BankBoston began in 1992 when he was hired as a commercial lender for the Small Business Banking team of Rhode Island Hospital Trust. With the expansion of First Community Bank (FCB) model into Rhode Island, Monteiro joined the RI-FCB lending platform as one of its original lenders to penetrate the Providence low-to-moderate income neighborhoods.
In addition to his banking background, Monteiro spent two years in the not-for-profit sector working as a project manager for The Providence Plan, a strategic planning organization dedicated to comprehensive urban change. He was responsible for the overall management and direction of the Federal Enterprise Community program in Providence. Monteiro holds BS from Rhode Island College and attended Syracuse University as an architectural degree candidate. He is a resident of Lincoln, RI and is active in numerous civic and community organizations.
