FARM FRESH RI’S BIKE WEEK KICKS OFF JULY 22 WITH FREE EVENTS AT FARMERS MARKETS
Bike to the Armory Market July 25th with Providence’s Mayor Elorza
Pawtucket, RI — Summertime is ideal for being more active outdoors and enjoying a healthy lifestyle focused on fresh, nutritious food. Farm Fresh RI is a nonprofit local food hub that increases access to fresh, locally grown foods for the community while helping local farmers and food makers thrive.
In celebration of this season of fresh produce and outdoor fun, Farm Fresh RI invites the public to kick off its Second Annual Bike Week at farmers markets in Providence, Pawtucket, and Central Falls beginning July 22, 2019.
Throughout Bike Week, the community is invited to enjoy free bicycle-related programming and activities for all ages—including a special group bike ride to the Armory Market with Providence’s Mayor Elorza on July 25th!
Bringing the Fun to Bike Week
Participating organizations include Jump Bikes ( jump.com), RI Bike Coalition (ribike.org) and The Woonasquatucket River Council’s Red Shed Bike Shop (wrwc.org/gwyRedShed.php), Recycle-A-Bike ( recycleabike.org), Dash Bicycle (dashbicycle.com), the City of Providence’s Sustain PVD office (providenceri.gov/sustainability), and Farm Fresh Rhode Island’s Nutrition Education program ( farmfreshri.org/nutrition).
The City of Providence, Sustain PVD — In celebration of Bike Week, the City of Providence’s Mayor Jorge O. Elorza will join the Rhode Island Bicycle Coalition and other Providence community members for a group ride to the Armory Farmers Market, which takes place in Dexter Training Grounds on Parade Street in Providence. Cyclists of all levels are encouraged to come along! Meet at Burnside Park at 4:00 pm for a 4:30 pm ride.
JUMP Bikes — JUMP creates on-demand electric bikes and scooters. There are over 1,100 JUMP bikes throughout the city of Providence. Stop by their booth at the farmers market to learn more and test-ride a bike.
RI Bike Coalition and Red Shed Bike Shop — Professionals will be on hand to review bike basics including bike fit, safety, and handling skills. Participants will run through stopping, starting, scanning, signaling, and dodge obstacles on a path. Some bikes will be provided, but bring your own if you have one!
Recycle-A-Bike (RAB)
RAB is bringing their community bike shop to the farmers market! Visit RAB to get a quick tune-up, clean your bike up, and learn more about your bike. Meet RAB’s staff and volunteers and learn more about repair/maintenance classes and programming for the whole family!
Dash Bicycle — A full-service community-oriented bicycle shop in Providence’s West End. Dash will bring the fun with a wacky bike-wheel toss and other games for everyone.
Farm Fresh RI Nutrition Education — Explore the bicycle fender-blender and peddle your own smoothie made of fresh ingredients straight from the farmers market.
