Spring has arrived at the Quonset Business Park and the North Kingstown Youth Lacrosse league season is underway.

The games are played on the Park’s new 22-acre athletic field complex, a joint effort of the Quonset Development Corporation (QDC), the Town of North Kingstown and the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management (RI DEM). A $400,000 RI DEM grant, matched by donations of $200,000 each from QDC and the Town, financed the project.

The North Kingstown Youth Lacrosse league President Devin O’Rourke and 5th and 6th grade lacrosse coach Paul Danchak are both thrilled to be using the new fields at Quonset this spring.

“The team at Quonset has been great – we’ve worked closely with Jack (Sprengel) and Arthur. Any time we have a suggestion, they are on it,” said O’Rourke. “They laid a foundation for our shed and put trim around the bottom to make it look better. They really went above and beyond.”

“It has been a pleasure working with them,” he added “I cannot overstate how much easier this year has been compared to last season, before we played at Quonset.”

“When you love the game of lacrosse as much as we do in North Kingstown, you want the sport to be shown in its best light. The Quonset fields are dedicated specifically for lacrosse, and that’s really special,” Coach Danchak added.

I’m unaware of another program in Rhode Island that could say that. As a parent and coach, I appreciate all the hard work that goes into the organization, maintenance, and care for our complex.”

“We are grateful for the continued support of the North Kingstown community,” said QDC Managing Director Steven King. “QDC is glad to be a part of the community, and we hope the new athletic fields will be enjoyed by North Kingstown residents for generations to come.”
