INFORMAL GATHERING AT WEAVER LIBRARY

“Digging up E.P. history” An informal gathering at the Weaver Library

D WEAVER Classof1969

Come share your memories of growing up in East Providence on Tuesday, February 12, 2019 or Wednesday, February 20, 2019, between 10:00 and 11:45 am in the Weaver Library Conference Room.

Drop in and meet Susan Cady, a local contributor of articles for the East Providence Historical Society’s newsletter, who is digging up E.P. history.  An avid researcher, Susan has extensive knowledge of East Providence’s past.

Was your family’s house or business moved before I-195 was dug out (late 1950s)? Susan invites you to come see the RIDOT plats and the locations of homes and businesses before the big dig and see where a few houses once on Broadway stand now.

Numerous bridges across I-195 were named for veterans. Were they your classmates in school?  Hear their stories.

Do you have photos of Halliday’s Hardware and Wayside Furniture Co. next to the Hollywood Theater (1930s-1950s) or the Atlantic gas station across from Newman Congregational Church (1950-60s)? Feel free to bring these and any old scrapbooks with news and photos of the old grammar schools once in the center of East Providence.

Unable to attend?  Email Susan at digsEPhistory@hotmail.com to share your stories.

Weaver Library is located at 41 Grove Avenue, East Providence, RI 02914.
