Community Radio Station Honors Longtime Volunteer
Susan Lindquist’s Legacy Will Live on with Community Help
Provincetown, December 20, 2018: As part of its capital campaign drive to update broadcast equipment, WOMR plans to name the Susan Lindquist Spoken Word Studio in honor of the much-loved volunteer’s contributions both to community radio and to the community itself, the station announced today.
Susan Lindquist passed away one week before Thanksgiving after a long battle with cancer.
For many years Lindquist hosted a popular talk show, originally called This Place Matters, that was a celebration of Cape Cod life. Every week the show provided intimate conversations with public officials, local business owners, young entrepreneurs, and people in the non-profit community.
A proud “wash-ashore,” Susan grew to love the people and the land here on our unique peninsula.
As an interviewer she drew on her personal experience as a social services professional, an active member of many boards, and a nonprofit executive director to get to the heart of issues facing Cape Codders.
She passionately believed in community radio as a medium to deliver that information
As an active member of WOMR’s Broadcast Equipment Campaign Committee, Lindquist was committed to upgrading the station’s outdated broadcast facilities in order to allow it to keep transmitting Cape Cod content created by community voices into the 21st century.
Shortly before she passed away, Lindquist donated $25,000 to the campaign. The station is now seeking help from the community to fulfill her commitment.
“Here at WOMR-FM, where she was a member of the board of directors, a long time, big-hearted donor, and a popular talk show host, we came to love Susan for her wit, her compassion, her fierce commitment to getting the job done, and above all for her generosity,” says Ira Wood, WOMR’s board president.
“In her honor we’ve begun a drive to keep her legacy and her name permanently alive. We’re asking the community to join many of WOMR’s board members and friends to help us match Susan’s donation and permanently name the spoken word studio after her. In this way her name will not only be inscribed in perpetuity but mentioned regularly on the air, a fitting way, we think, to remember and honor her spirit.”
Potential donors may contact WOMR’s executive director, John Braden to make a gift or for more information. The station hopes to dedicate the Susan Lindquist Studio in 2019.
