ATTLEBORO, MA ??? The October 11 Skype virtual discussion with this year???s NEA Big Read author, Ron Carlson, has been canceled due to circumstances beyond our control. All other NEA Big Read events shall continue as scheduled.

Please join us for the official kick-off of our 2018 NEA Big Read at the Attleboro Arts Museum (86 Park St., Attleboro) on Saturday, September 15, from 2 to 4 p.m. with the mounting of an exhibit entitled Mesa: Tables Constructed with??Five Skies??Overhead.??The afternoon also includes performances of poetry from the Carpenter Poets of Eastern Massachusetts and is sponsored by the Attleboro Arts Museum and the Attleboro Cultural Council. Neil Swidey, Boston Globe columnist and author of ???Trapped Under the Sea: One Engineering Marvel, Five Men, and a Disaster Ten Miles Into the Darkness??? is this year???s keynote speaker. This event is on Wednesday, October 17 at 7 p.m. at Bristol Community College Attleboro Campus (11 Field Rd., Attleboro). Register online at attleborolibrary.org/events or call 508-222-0157.

This title was selected as a partner read to Five Skies as it also details the dangers of a construction project and supports this year???s STREAM (Science, Technology, Reading, Engineering, Arts & Mathematics) themes. Limited copies of Swidey???s book will be available at this year???s book distributions.

Join us at the Lees Pond Festival on Saturday, September 15 (rain date is Sunday, September 16) to pick up a free copy of Five Skies and a calendar of this year???s events. Be sure to enter our two free raffles for a Tool Bucket, worth $200, sponsored by Laurie Drucker of RTN Realty Advisors and a ???My American Girl??? Doll, sponsored by the American Girl Doll Corporation, along with a book of doll STEM activities. Winning tickets will be drawn at this year???s finale dinner hosted by the Culinary Arts program at Attleboro High School (100 Rathbun Willard Dr, Attleboro) on October 25. You do not need to be present to win.
