Weaver Library and the Artists Loop invite you to view and discuss the documentary The Art of Romare Bearden on Monday, June 27, 2016 at 7pm. Artist and CCRI instructor Keith Fox will introduce the 30-minute film and lead a discussion afterwards. The film screening is part of the Artists Loop Memory Quilt Collage Series, a project led by Pnina Pressburger in collaboration with textile and collage artists working in mixed media.

Romare Bearden, an African-American artist and writer renowned primarily for his brightly colored collages, created both complex and colorful works rooted in the history of western, African, and Asian art, literature and music. His life and art took him from North Carolina to Pittsburgh and Harlem, and later in his life to the Caribbean island of St. Martin. The documentary traces Bearden???s entire career, including his paintings and watercolors of the 1940s, his experimental and mature collages, and his large scale murals. It offers insightful commentary from noted art scholars and historians and those who knew him, including Wynton Marsalis, Albert Murray, and Emma Amos.
