Rep. Ackerman reelected Deputy Whip

STATE HOUSE — Rep. Mia A. Ackerman has been reelected Deputy Majority Whip by the House Democratic Caucus.

“I am proud to have been chosen again by my colleagues and I pledge to remain open and accessible to all House members, especially our newly elected legislators,” said Representative Ackerman (D-Dist. 45, Cumberland, Lincoln). “I will continue working alongside our state leaders to keep our state moving in a positive direction.”

Deputy Whip Ackerman will work closely as part of the Democratic Leadership Team headed by Speaker K. Joseph Shekarchi (D-Dist. 23, Warwick) and Majority Leader Christopher Blazejewski (D-Dist. 2, Providence). She became the first woman to hold the role of Deputy Whip in 2021 and was first elected as a state representative in November 2012. She has been a strong consumer and health care advocate, championing laws to combat cancer and protect consumers’ rights.

Before serving at the State House, Representative Ackerman served as a member of the Cumberland Town Council from 2006 to 2012. She holds a bachelor’s degree in political economics from the State University of New York at Binghamton. In addition to her duties as a legislator, she is a self-employed Real Estate Title Examiner.
