URI PARTNERS WITH GIRL SCOUTS OF SOUTHEASTERN NEW ENGLAND

Girl Scouts of Southeastern New England Hosts Cookie Rally at URI
WARWICK, RI (January 16, 2025)— Girl Scouts of Southeastern New England (GSSNE) hosted their annual Cookie Rally on Sunday, January 12, at the Ryan Center at the University of Rhode Island as part of an ongoing partnership with URI and Tammi Reiss, head coach of the URI Women’s Basketball Team.

GSSNE is also excited to have Tammi as the 2025 Honorary Cookie Chair! The Cookie Rally had 598 attendees which included Girl Scouts, volunteers, and families.

Hundreds of Girl Scouts were able to participate in activities to get them ready and excited for cookie season!

They participated in activities such as designing a new cookie, “what’s wrong with this cookie booth”, practiced safety when selling cookies door-to-door, played numerous cookie related games, and much more! This year featured a new table called “meet the politicians” where several local politicians were able to speak to Girl Scouts about the importance of civic engagement.

Attendees included Congressman Gabe Amo, Senator Tiara Mack (D-Dist 6, Providence), Representative Tina Spears (D – District 36, Charlestown, South Kingstown, New Shoreham, Westerly), Representative Teresa A. Tanzi (D – District 34, Narragansett, South Kingstown), Representative Carol Hagan McEntee (D – District 33, Narragansett, South Kingstown).

“The Girl Scout Cookie Program is about so much more than delicious cookies,” said Ginger Lallo, GSSNE Chief Operating Officer. “Through the cookie program, Girl Scouts learn valuable skills like money management, goal setting, business ethics, people skills, and decision making, all while funding their own adventures and having fun.

The annual Cookie Rally is a chance for Girl Scouts to get a head-start on learning some of these skills before cookie booths start.”

After the Cookie Rally, Girl Scouts and their families attended the nationally televised women’s basketball game between URI and George Mason. Girl Scouts participated in the tunnel team, stood on the court during the national anthem, participated in the price is right game, a free throw contest, and more! After the game they were also able to meet the team and coaches and get autographs from the players.

We Are Girl Scouts
Girl Scouts bring their dreams to life and work together to build a better world. Through programs across Southeastern New England, girls and gender-expansive youth of all backgrounds and abilities can be unapologetically themselves in a safe space as they discover their strengths and rise to meet new challenges.

Backed strong friendships and trusted adult volunteers, mentors, and millions of alums, Girl Scouts lead the way as they find their voices and make changes that affect the issues most important to them. Girl Scouts feel comfortable trying new things without the pressure to be perfect, speaking their minds, and processing their emotions in healthy ways.

They discover how being different makes them special, strengthens their sense of belonging, and, ultimately, makes them proud to be themselves. That’s the magic of Girl Scouting.
