SHELDON WHITEHOUSE FOR SENATE

Whitehouse for Senate Launches Two New TV Spots

60-second and 30-second ads highlight Whitehouse’s dedication to lowering costs and protecting Social Security and Medicare

Senator Sheldon Whitehouse

PROVIDENCE, RI – With Labor Day in the rearview mirror, the Whitehouse for Senate campaign is up on the airwaves with two new TV spots highlighting Sheldon Whitehouse’s record of fighting for Rhode Islanders.  The ads put a spotlight on Whitehouse’s success in the U.S. Senate protecting Social Security and Medicare from cuts, lowering prescription drug costs for seniors, and taking on Big Oil, among other big fights.

“Wouldn’t it be great if, on the list of a family’s worries, you could take ‘Will Social Security and Medicare actually be there for me?’ right off the list?” Sheldon asks in one of the spots.  “Yes, it will be there for you.  We can make Social Security and Medicare sound forever.  I am so eager to be in that fight.  We can commit the money to it to make sure that they’re sound and secure forever.”

Whitehouse wrote the Medicare and Social Security Fair Share Act to protect Social Security and Medicare as far as the eye can see simply by making the nation’s highest earners – people making over $400,000 a year – contribute their fair share into the programs.  He is a founding member of the Expand Social Security Caucus, and successfully fought the so-called “chained CPI” proposal to limit seniors’ annual cost-of-living adjustments and cut Social Security benefits.

The 60-second ad, “Listens,” can be watched here, and the 30-second “There for you” is here.

The Democratic Primary is Tuesday, September 10.  Whitehouse, a senior member of the Democratic caucus, is seeking Rhode Islanders’ support for a fourth term in the U.S. Senate.
