Since 2007, the Attleboro Arts Museum has been an active partner in the City of Attleboro’s reading initiatives. These programs encourage participants to read the same literature at the same time – and extend their connection to the chosen material through local arts and cultural activities.
This year’s events center around the simple, but often neglected, act of kindness. Gestures of selflessness, compassion, courtesy, and working toward the greater good will set the tone during book clubs, presentations, exhibitions of art, and more.
From September 7th – 21st the Attleboro Arts Museum presents Here, I’ll Get That for You: Strokes of Kindness – In Art, In Life. Using acts of kindness and committing to the greater good as inspiration, over twenty artists have created work as a tribute to a range of non-profit organizations.
On Saturday, September7th a Community Read Kickoff and Opening Reception will be held at the Museum from 2-4pm. Exhibiting artists will be honored at this event and representatives from the Attleboro Public Library will share highlights from the 2024 – 2025 schedule of programs prompted by kindness.
The following Saturday, September 14th poet and teacher James Crews will deliver a keynote presentation for the 2024 Community Read at the museum at 2pm. He frequently speaks on kindness, mindfulness, and writing for self -compassion.
Crews is the editor of several bestselling anthologies, including The Path to Kindness: Poems of Connection and Joy and How to Love the World: Poems of Gratitude and Hope, which has over 100,000 copies in print. He has been featured in The Washington Post, The Boston Globe, The New York Times Magazine, The New Republic, The Christian Science Monitor, and on NPR’s Morning Edition.
