Help Sol y Canto celebrate their 30th Anniversary!

Sol y Canto is the award-winning Pan-Latin ensemble led by Puerto Rican/Argentine singer and percussionist Rosi Amador and New Mexican guitarist and composer Brian Amador. Featuring Rosi’s crystalline voice and Brian’s lush Spanish guitar and inventive compositions, Sol y Canto’s original songs are socially conscious and hopeful, set in a framework of varied musical styles with surprising twists. Their arrangements of Latin classics showcase familiar, singable tunes in a fresh new light. Described by the Boston Globe as “sublime ambassadors of Latin music,” Sol y Canto translates Spanish lyrics poetically to make their music accessible to all. They can make you dance, laugh, cry, and sigh all in one concert. With Brian’s commanding, intricate guitar playing, Rosi’s rhythmic drive on cajón and bongos, and liberal use of vocal improvisation and body percussion, the duo’s sound is full and dynamic. With Queralt’s versatile cello playing and the addition of her voice to the group’s luscious harmonies, the trio’s sound is both powerful and intimate.

Sonorous Dialogues: Beethoven and Chopin Cello Sonatas, with Ana Glig and Jacques Lee Wood

Bass River Arts Campus

Saturday, September 14, 2024, at 07:30 PM Price: $25

Pianist Ana Glig and cellist Jacques Lee Wood present two of the most celebrated cello sonatas: Beethoven’s A Major Sonata and Chopin’s G Minor Sonata. In this concert, Ana and Jacques delve into the heart of these masterpieces, exploring the nuances of each composer’s unique voice while celebrating the timeless beauty and emotional power of cello sonatas. Ludwig van Beethoven’s Cello Sonata No. 3 in A Major, embodies the composer’s mature style, balancing lyrical beauty with structural complexity. Its soaring melodies and intricate interplay between cello and piano make it a cornerstone of the cello repertoire, showcasing Beethoven’s mastery of form and expression.

Frédéric Chopin’s Cello Sonata in G Minor offers a contrasting yet equally profound experience. Known for its Romantic lyricism and emotional depth, Chopin’s sonata explores the full range of the cello and piano’s expressive capabilities, interweaving each voice creating a dialogue that is both intimate and expansive.
