Summer programs for kids at Pawtucket Public Library

CHILDREN’S SUMMER READING PROGRAM

Pawtucket Library (13 Summer St.)

The Pawtucket Public Library is excited to announce this year’s summer reading program “Operation: READ.” Calling all agents! Children of all ages can be Summer Readers. Children ages 6-12 can read on their own with family and friends. Collect prizes after reading 3 hours, 6 hours, and 9 hours. Once 9 hours are complete, your child will earn two raffle tickets for this year’s prize baskets. For our youngest pre-readers ages 0-5 we have an activity log. After every three (3) activities are completed, your child will earn a prize. Complete 9 activities and earn two raffle tickets for this year’s prize baskets. Register for the program in the children’s library, on the bookmobile or online at www.pawtucketlibrary.org. All children are welcome to attend the following programs scheduled in July and August:

Creative Bookmark Making

Tuesday July 9, 11:00 AM

Join us for a fun drawing program with library volunteer Dylan. He will teach kids how to create cool characters and make interesting bookmarks! Recommended for children ages 5 and up. No registration required.

Odd Squad Agent Training

Wednesday July 10, 2:00 PM

Are you up for the challenge of training to be an Odd Squad Agent? Kids in grades K-5 can come and be an agent for the day as they help us solve some odd problems at the library! Kids will get to use their problem solving skills in some hands-on challenges! No registration required.

Be A Spy For The Day

Monday July 15, 3:00 PM

Your mission should you choose to accept it: Kids ages 8-12 are invited to be a spy for the day! Take part in a 1 hour quest where you will solve 3 separate missions and take home your own spy kit! Registration is required. Registration opens June 17th.

Mystery Painting Workshop

Wednesday July 17, 3:00 PM

What are we going to paint? I don’t know! It’s a mystery! Want to learn some painting skills and solve this mystery then be sure to register for this event just for kids. This event is for kids ages 8 and up. Registration is required. Registration opens on June 19th.

Family Movie Night

Wednesday July 17 & August 21, 6:00 PM

Children with their families are invited to watch a free movie. Kids age 10 or older may attend without a caregiver. No registration required.

Sensory Friendly Story Time

Friday July 29 & August 16, 11:00 AM

This inclusive program is 20 minutes and includes a story, songs, rhymes and movement. At the end of story time, there will be some sensory activities to explore. Great for caregivers looking for a small group and a sensory friendly environment. Registration is recommended, but not required.

Graphic Novel Book Club

Saturday July 20, 2:00 PM

The Graphic Novel Book Club for kids will be sharing ideas and doing activities focused on the book, Timothy Dinoman Saves the Cat by Steve Thueson.  The first 10 kids to register will receive a free copy of the book.  Other copies will be available for check-out.  Join us to share your thoughts about the book, play trivia games and complete a craft.  Welcome to all children who have read the book.  This title is best for ages 9-11. Registration is required.

Craft Your Own Spy Kit

Monday July 22, 3:00 PM

Ready to head out on a secret mission? Looking to gather some clues to solve the mystery? First you’ll need to create your own spy kit! Kids ages 6-12 are invited to come to the library to make their own spy kit. We will complete several different crafts that each child will get to take home and keep! This program is free, but requires registration. When signing up please indicate only how many children will participate.


Julie Garnett’s Musical Story Time

Wednesday July 31, 10:30 AM

Join us for a fun interactive musical story time for kids ages 1-7. A free book will be provided, while supplies last. No registration required.

Daniel Tiger Story Time

Friday August 3, 11:00 AM

Hello neighbor! Join us for a very special story time featuring Daniel Tiger stories, episodes, and a craft! 4 year old Daniel Tiger puts on his red sweater, ties his shoes, and invites kids into his world of make believe. Come to the library to share in his adventures! No registration required.

Make Your Own Video Game

Wednesday August 7, 3:00 PM

For kids and teens ages 10 and up. The Rhode Island Computer Museum will be at the library to present their “Make Your Own Video Game” workshop. This is a great chance to put down your controllers and take time to learn interactive software titled “Scratch” and create your own “video game” sample. Scratch is a computer program developed to teach software coding and allows you to create your own “video game” sample. The workshop aims to explain coding and give students new skills to develop their own games. Registration is required. Registration opens July 8th.

Finale Party with Animal Experiences

Friday August 9, 11:00 AM

Join us to celebrate the end of the Summer Reading Program! Dave Marchetti from Animal Experiences will be here with his hands-on animal show! We will also announce the winners for each of this year’s Summer Reading Prize Baskets! No registration required.
