The proactive podcast guest
Making the most out of a podcast appearance starts long before you appear on the show. It begins by sharing key information with the producer/host well in advance. Those materials should include:
Bio with headshot
Links to your website and all your social media pages
Relevant press releases, media coverage, articles, blog posts and videos
Quotes from the above items
Possible questions
Having that info ready to transmit to the host/producer will help you benefit even more from your podcast appearance?
How?
First, podcasts like to promote upcoming episodes. Putting your info in their hands ASAP will help them start promoting ASAP.
It will also help hosts to be better prepared for your appearance, particularly offering a few questions they might possibly ask. The host may or may not use them. If they decline, it does provide an opportunity for you to ask for some of the questions you will be asked. The host will usually share those or, at the very least, give an idea of the types of questions you will be asked.
The second reason for having all that information at the ready:
Show notes.
Some of that material will come from your appearance. The rest usually includes ways to contact or follow you or your company. Essentially, the info you provided before your appearance.
Don’t be surprised if the host asks you for information you’ve already sent to them. That’s where it comes in very handy to have a press kit with all of that type of information put together—typically in one document/electronic file.
Developing a press kit for podcast guesting is one of the topics Steve Dubin will cover at his upcoming workshop, Podcast Now – Be a Podcast Guest Star.
The free, live event is set for Wednesday, January 24, 9 – 10 a.m. at the offices of the Plymouth Area Chamber of Commerce, 100 Armstrong Rd STE 204, Plymouth, MA 02360. Participants are asked to RSVP here.
