Our Featured Artist for December is Susan Gilmore
Susan Gilmore, award-winning artist in graphic arts, painting, and sculpture, studied art as a teenager at the DeCordova Museum School, in Lincoln, MA, graduating from the Swain School of Design, in New Bedford, MA with a BFA in sculpture.
Realizing her discontent with city living while briefly studying with Grace Hartigan at the Maryland Art Institute, MFA program, she fulfilled her desire to live by the sea, where she procured a job with a public relations firm in New Bedford and Nantucket, retiring as senior art director. Susan has continually maintained a studio and presently is painting with acrylics and oil pastels.
Artist Statement
I want to express my feelings rather than illustrate them. So I let myself go while painting, allowing my emotions to take hold of what I am seeing, feeling and remembering. For me, my paintings are about the pleasure of seeing: of being cognizant of the landscape I’m in and pushing to find an alchemy between paint, the subject and the moment.
