ATTLEBORO PUBLIC LIBRARY – OCTOBER

Books, movies, games, and SO MUCH MORE.
YOUR library has something for everyone!

A Message from the Director

It’s officially Autumn and APL staff are “falling” in love with the events of the season! New titles are piling up, patrons are celebrating their Freedom to Read, homework is being done, and who doesn’t want to be curled up reading or watching something cozy? (Yes, I know some of you want all the spooky things right now, but I am a wimp when it comes to scary season.)

We’re starting the month with our usual exploration of Banned Books Week. Each year, libraries share the top 10 most frequently challenged books in the country and the reasons why these books are being challenged. Libraries own these books because they are highly acclaimed, well reviewed, frequently requested, and include a perspective that is lacking in other titles. The Attleboro Library’s Collection Development Policy can be found here online.

Mid-October is busy as we conduct the annual statewide delivery survey. Did you know that last year we received almost 48,000 items from other libraries for patrons? October 16th also starts Friends of the Library week, a time for acknowledging the many volunteers who work diligently to support the APL and the staff every day, all year. We are extra thankful for the work they are doing this month to prepare for the annual book sale happening next month.

Of course, we will close this latte-loving month with a day of pumpkin painting to kick off the Downtown Trick or Treating event on October 21. On Halloween, staff will be giving away children’s books in the Children’s Room, and yes, we encourage visitors to come in costume! Hope to see you soon!
