JIM MCGOVERN’S FARM VISITS

Hello Neighbors and Friends,

Its been heart-breaking to watch as communities across Western Massachusetts experience record rainfall, and as a result, severe flooding.

On Saturday, I brought Senator Warren to Hadley and Deerfield to survey flood damage and speak directly with farmers to hear how they have been impacted.

Some of these farmers lost so much, including crops and equipment. We talked about pushing for low-interest loans to help them refinance—as well as direct grant assistance. Our small farmers don’t need more debt and federal and state governments must step up to the table to provide more help.

Make no mistake: severe weather events like these are only going to become more common as climate change worsens. House Democrats and President Biden are making historic progress in combatting climate change.

From day one, my team and I have been closely monitoring the situation and we will do what’s necessary to cut through the red tape and deliver relief. These moments are especially important for our community to come together and send a clear message to our farmers: we have your back.

As our communities continue to experience record rainfall and flooding, use caution and follow directions from first responders. In the event of an emergency, dial 911.

You can visit MEMA’s website to prepare for potential emergencies or call 211 for non-emergency assistance.

My team and I will share more resources as they become available.

Please don’t hesitate to contact my office if you require further assistance, including if you need to learn more about disaster relief but are not a farmer.

I hope you and your family remain safe.

Sincerely,

JIM MCGOVERN
