STATE HOUSE – Sen. Sandra Cano was among the dignitaries who celebrated a new educational partnership between Rhode Island and Taiwan at a State House event Friday.

The event marked the signing of a memorandum of understanding on international education cooperation between Rhode Island and Taiwan to enhance and expand two-way educational exchange.

The event was attended by Taiwan’s representative to the United States, Bi-khim Hsiao, and Jonathan C.Y. Sun, Director-General of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Boston. Senator Cano (D-Dist. 8, Pawtucket) joined Treasurer James A. Diossa, Secretary of State Gregg M. Amore and Rep. Barbara Ann Fenton-Fung (R-Dist. 15, Cranston) at the event.

“Forging closer ties with Taiwan for educational exchange purposes is an excellent way to provide better educational opportunities for Rhode Islanders and Taiwanese people.

It will better enable students to achieve bilingual fluency and promote the exchange of culture, and provide excellent opportunities to prepare the next generation of leaders who will promote international relations and business.

We look forward to a wonderful partnership that benefits us all,” said Senator Cano.
