Faded Iris Snipped
BY DON DOUCETTE
About Iris
I lived as a kid for a few years on our grandparents’ farm in Attleboro – ninety rural acres of pure joy for a kid.
My grandfather did yard work and rubbish removal jobs for some very well-to-do people in Attleboro and dumped the stuff in a dump site on the farm.
Some of the most beautiful iris grew and bloomed every June in that dump from the discarded yard waste.
My grandmother, a lady of many gifts and talents, cut and arranged those beautiful fresh flowers and displayed them in an assortment of antique vases throughout the old farmhouse.
Thus, my personal love affair with blooming iris of all kind.
Dead-heading the faded blooms, in my opinion, assures another highly anticipated following season filled with stunning iris-blooming beauty.
